Howdy y’ all! Show season is finally in full swing! I hope everyone has had a chance to take their horses out on the trails and to a horse show or two. With more and more events being added to WSCA On Deck my calendar is starting to fill up. I can’ t wait to attend my favorite WSCA shows, catch up with old friends and make new ones. Lady, Birdie, and I attended the Double Judged Show in Northwest on May 17th and even though it was cold, it was an awesome day! Northwest Saddle Club put on a great show. The ranch classes were the biggest I have seen so far with over 35 riders! Lady and I were able to place in the top 6, in both events, and under both judges! It was a fantastic way for us to start off our season and we still have room to improve. I am already looking forward to the next show. Birdie gave me a solid ride in the Senior English Pleasure class. Even though we didn’ t place, I was pleased with our ride and the improvements we have made since last season. I learned years ago that just because I didn’ t place doesn’ t mean I can’ t be proud of my ride. Since I started showing horses( almost 20 years ago) my parents always had me set goals for myself that had nothing to do with winning a ribbon. They taught me that personal improvement was more important. I keep the same mindset now when I compete, especially if I am on a younger horse. I love looking back at my first show of the season and seeing how far my horses and I have come.
