june update

Welcome to the June Reading Guide ! This month we are excited to share a wide range of new releases with you , from the latest crime reads , blockbuster thrillers , fresh fantasy fiction , and scandalous history . Read on for details on our featured books and other recommendations .
Every Last Suspect by Nicola Moriarty is the Fiction Book of the Month . The twists and turns we ’ ve come to expect from her work are on full display as the author weaves her tale of murder through multiple perspectives . Fastpaced and dramatic , this is a domestic thriller you won ’ t want to put down . On page 3 , the author talks about her process , the challenges inherent in creating unexpected storylines , and how the plot can also be a mystery to her until the end .
The Non-Fiction Book of the Month is Finding Your People , written by Alexandra Hourigan and Sally McMullen . This is a guide to friendships for today ’ s uber-connected world . With a healthy dose of humour , the authors remind us of the ( sometimes overlooked ) importance of friendships and deliver practical advice on managing platonic relationships . This book would make an ideal gift for school leavers , college graduates , and any young adult in your life . Hear more from the authors about the book , their friendship , and their alter egos , the Two Broke Chicks , on page 7 .
Detective Beans & the Case of the Missing Hat is our Kids ’ Book of the Month . Written and gorgeously illustrated by Li Chen , this book is the perfect introduction to graphic novels for younger readers ( as well as seasoned aficionados ). We join the impossibly cute Detective Beans as he searches Cat Town for his missing hat . We absolutely adored this whimsical and fun mystery . On page 12 , the author tells us about what inspired her , where to find more of her hilarious work , and gives us clues about future mysteries that might be in store for the intrepid Detective Beans .
This month ’ s Stella Selection is Feast by Emily O ’ Grady . Read more about Feast , one of the shortlisted titles for this year ’ s Stella Prize , on page 4 . We ’ d also like to congratulate Alexis Wright , author of the epic Praiseworthy , on winning the 2024 prize ! Stay tuned for a Stella review of Praiseworthy in a future issue .
Our First Nations Feature book this month is Marringa Lullaby , written by Emily Wurramara and Sylvia Wurramarrba Tkac , and brought to life through beautiful original artwork by Dylan Mooney . Intended to help children wind down for bed , this book also encourages an appreciation of Country . For every copy sold during June , Collins Booksellers will donate $ 1 to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation .
In addition to our featured titles , there is plenty to get excited about in June . The Desert Knows Her Name , by Lia Hills , is a moody and unsettling story about what happens to a town when a strange and silent girl emerges from the bush . This book is also our cover art for June . Bestselling author Helen Simonson ’ s The Hazelbourne Ladies Motorcycle and Flying Club is historical fiction escapism at its finest . Set in 1919 Britain , the story depicts a young woman ’ s coming of age against the backdrop of societal change .
In non-fiction , Norman Ohler ’ s Tripped delves into the scandalous history of LSD . The author of Blitzed is at his best in this revelatory investigation of how the CIA spurred the dawn of the psychedelic era by attempting to harness LSD as a truth serum . This book will surprise and thrill you .
Younger readers will love Sharkman and Blowfish : World Domination the hilarious new graphic novel by David Woodland . This intricately illustrated tale of friendship ( and world domination ) is perfect for fans of The Bad Guys and Real Pigeons .
Beyond those featured in this guide , each Collins Booksellers store thoughtfully curates a selection of titles for you to enjoy . Every store is independently owned and operated by passionate people who love books and their communities , so you ’ ll always find something to love .
Remember to collect a reading guide from your local Collins Booksellers store each month and , as always , reach out to your local bookseller for more recommendations .
Happy reading ! Laura from Head Office
