UNH Steel Bridge Team
During the Steel bridge competition, UNH’ s final bridge construction took 32 minutes and weighed 190 lbs. Full lateral loads were withstood, and the bridge was able to safely hold a vertical load of approximately 700 pounds. The image above right shows the bridge with the applied load( load case 5 selected). The bridge failed at the connections as a result of bucking in the top member.
Some key takeaways to apply for next year include improvements to the top member design, fabrication methods, and material choices. We saw a variety of connection types and materials that inspired new ideas for our design moving forward. Finally, we plan to have the design and fabrication finished earlier in the year to give ourselves more time to tweak and improve imperfections. Looking back on our bridge this year, we are happy with the outcome and are excited to continue moving forward and improve our design.
UNH Concete Canoe Team
The UNH ASCE Concrete Canoe team successfully made the trip to Amherst, Massachusetts, and passed all races without any major cracks in the canoe. The team performed well in races, placing 4th and 5th in the men ' s and women ' s tandem( still awaiting official results). The team doubled in size to 15 total members, and canoe quality improved over the last year as well. We are excited to keep the club’ s momentum going into the 2026 competition!
