MONTREAL

This Hidden Roast Chicken & Spare Ribs Joint Way In The Montreal East End Is Totally Worth The Trip

Tucked away on rue Hochelaga in the East End neighbourhood of Tétreaultville sits the unassuming Coq de L ’ Est . Only the kitschy illumination of a tattered sign featuring a personified chicken alerts passersby to its existence .
Even its online presence is minimal . The “ About ” section on its Facebook page reads only , “ Rôtisserie et côtes levées — Chicken Joint .” The restaurant has no website .
For Montrealers living in the denser neighbourhoods at the centre of the island , getting to Le Coq de l ’ Est wihtout a car involves a trek to the eastern extremity of the green line and then either a 10-minute bus ride or a 25-minute walk .
