Handling of Oils & Lubricants and its Effects
Oils & Lubricants play a great role in maintaining life cycle of equipment used rigorously in industries. There are different Oils & Lubricants for different equipment used which requires maintenance to save it from impurities which otherwise make lubricants inefficient for use affecting the performance of machinery. Oils & Lubricants require a great level of attention from processing, storage, carrying, handling & dispensing phase.
Oils & Lubricants should be stored at a separate area / warehouse which may be indoor or outdoor depending on the lubricants keeping them in a certain range of temperature and using safe handling techniques to avoid its pilferage, contamination and degradation.
Here are some points for handling of lubricants.
Packaging and Labelling
Wide range o Oils & Lubricants are available from Various Companies and there Dealers etc. Alsothere may be a sameVeriety and Quality of oil & lubricants under the different Brands, with the minimal differences. Oils & Lubricants should have proper label of their names, shelf life, manufacturing date, expiry date, quantity, specifications, test results, storage conditions required, handling directions etc. to avoid its deterioration / degradation and damage to heavy and light machineries used in industries. Colour coding schemes & Alphanumeric Coding Schemes are mostly adopted for identification of the oils & lubricants used. This may lead to some chance of erroror mix and match with some other oil or lubricant. Also during the Conveying, Storage and Handling, Contamination level of oils is increased.
Temperature Balance
Oils and Lubricants are kept under moderate temperature conditions specifically in the dust and humidity / moisture free environment. The barrels should be kept tightly sealed or in case of open containers it should be protected from getting contaminated or chemically affected. Also proper quality control of stored oils & lubricants should be done to preserve their properties for better results.
Proper Storage Space
The oils and lubricants should not be left open or undesirable conditions. There should be a spacious area where huge barrels / containers / drums etc are arranged properly with stock distribution done on First in and First Out basis due to limited
