Maximize Recovery: Turning Setbacks Into Momentum( Continued)
Those small decisions compound. They maintain your identity as someone who shows up. They preserve your momentum. And over time, that consistency is what delivers results, rather than any single great workout or perfect week.
A Mental Reset
In an unexpected way, this injury has been a reset for me.
It’ s reminded me that progress doesn’ t always look like adding weight, improving times, or playing at your peak. Sometimes progress is simply refusing to stop.
It’ s adapting. It’ s staying engaged. It’ s finding a way forward when the usual path is blocked.
There’ s also a level of gratitude that comes with it. When you temporarily lose the ability to do something you love, you gain a deeper appreciation for movement itself.
Bringing It Back to“ Maximize Recovery”
In our profession, we talk about maximizing recovery in terms of outcomes for our clients.
But maximizing recovery personally means something just as important: putting yourself in the best position to keep moving forward, no matter the circumstances.
That doesn’ t come from waiting until you’ re fully healed, fully rested, or fully ready.
It comes from consistency.
From showing up in whatever capacity you can.
From choosing movement over stillness.
Final Thought
Breaking my hand didn’ t stop me from staying active. It forced me to think differently about what staying active looks like.
It reinforced a simple truth: setbacks are not barriers … they’ re tests.
They test whether your commitment is tied to perfect conditions, or whether it’ s rooted in something deeper.
So the next time life gives you a reason to stop: an injury, a busy week, a disruption … remember this:
There is always something you can do. And if you keep doing something, consistently, over time …
You will always be moving forward.
