A Note From The Editor:
Congratulations going out to Taylor Yeagle, owner of Hund Haus Grooming Boutique in Montoursville, for spearheading an effort to better protect animals in our state. Yeagle is working with Humane Action Pennsylvania to establish a statewide animal abuse registry, which would be accessible to the public, and include offenders ' names, photographs, offenses, and conviction dates. The proposed legislation would mirror Megan ' s Law, which requires convicted sex offenders to be listed in a free, online database. In addition to the registry, the legislation would prohibit convicted individuals from adopting or working in any animal-related field for a determined period of time. Tennessee, Colorado, and several counties in New York have similar laws, and studies indicate these registries help protect animals and deter repeat offenders. The grooming boutique owner was prompted to take action amid a surge of abuse cases throughout the state, some of which was perpetrated by repeat abusers who have not faced any consequences for their offenses.
Yeagle says,“ I may be just one voice, but every animal deserves to be safe. This registry is a step toward ensuring that no pet is ever left in the hands of someone with a known history of abuse.”
Sometimes, that ' s all it takes- one voice from one brave individual that cares enough to bring about positive change. Thank you, Taylor, for being that person.
