1991
Opened on Rhode Island Hospital ’ s campus and renamed Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in honor of the visionary who influenced Providence health services , this is the site of Steere House today .
1874
Henry J . Steere and Lucy Bucklin founded the Home for Aged Men , originally located on Point Street in Providence . Steere served as the corporation ’ s first president , starting a long legacy of community philanthropy and leadership .
1882-1990
Over 100 years , the Home changed locations to offer more accommodations and services to meet the growing demand of new populations , including married couples and , ultimately , single women .
