BOARD PERSPECTIVE
BY AMIE ROBERTSHAW , AAMD PRESIDENT
Thank You for " Making Waves " In 2022-2023
Well , it ’ s a fact . Time flies when you ’ re having fun – because I can hardly believe it ’ s been a year since I embarked on this journey as AAMD President . And while I suppose I always kinda knew that I ’ d have some degree of fun while serving in this role , I don ’ t think I could have ever guessed just how deeply rewarding it would all be .
I started with a simple vision : believe that anything was possible .
And my ‘ call to action ’ to our ‘ 22- ‘ 23 leadership team : make an impact ( in other words , make some waves ).
I was confident that if we approached our roles with fresh perspectives , a strong level of commitment and a sincere desire to leave an impact , then we could do great things and have a bit of fun at the same time .
I believe we succeeded .
During this past year , we had the largest number of new members in a single year ( 393 vs prior record of 368 ) and we tied our record high membership renewal percentage of 95.9 %. This puts our growing association at over 290,000 Units , over 1,950 communities , and over 2,950 total members - the 6th largest local multifamily affiliate association in the country .
In order to tackle the staffing challenges that we are all facing AAMD invested $ 20,000 into our
ProApartments . com campaign , which included bus stop advertising , advertising on streaming and television platforms , and search engine optimization that translated to over 250 new job seekers and thousands of new job views . We also converted our job posting model so that all owners could post unlimited open positions for no cost - which has resulted in hundeds of new job postings .
Other accomplishments this past year that are outlined in this issue include the M . I . N . D . ( Mentoring Into New Dimensions ) Mentorship Program as a way of working to retain existing talent in the industry and setting record attendance numbers for Maintenance Mania , TechCon and the Education Conference and Trade Show .
We have also started gearing up for what is going to be the biggest and best Tributes we ’ ve ever hosted as well .
While this legislative session was one of the most challenging in history , our government affairs team and volunteers worked to provide the best outcome for our industry .
A huge thanks to all of our members that took time to voice their opposition to their representatives and especially to those that took the time to testify at the Capitol . Without you , these victories may not have existed .
In closing , I ’ d like to thank everyone who made waves this year . From leadership , to AAMD staff , to membership , sponsors , advocates , coalition partners … you rocked it . You showed up , broke records , left a legacy - and boy , was it fun !
