The article by Ellen Liberman about the state of bicycling in Rhode Island is an excellent piece of writing and captures the view of so many . Please pass my congratulations to your reporter — [ the story does ] an excellent job of portraying the current conditions and pointing a path to a better future . Better infrastructure for cyclists , pedestrians and public transit would build a much better Rhode Island for everyone . Thanks again for such good and necessary reporting .

Restaurant relics — what about Twin Oaks in Cranston ? I am eighty years old and I remember going there for dinner when I was younger , perhaps in my late teens or twenties . Is there a reason they didn ’ t make the list ?

Editor ’ s Note : You ’ re right . We should have included Twin Oaks . They deserve the mention . I ’ ll add it online .
“ Santa ’ s Surprising Connection to Newport ,” RIMonthly . com
The connections between Newport and the “ Poet of Christmas Eve ” — Clement Clarke — extend beyond his home on Catherine Street and his desk on the display in the local museum . Moore had several grandchildren that were born in Newport and as he spent his final years in his residence there , it is likely that he read the classic poem to his own grandchildren gathered for the holidays in this very location . I visited Newport this fall and stood for a moment at his home to remember this amazing contribution to children everywhere . Perhaps as the poem celebrates its publishing bicentennial in 2023 , a spot in Newport could be found for a statue or memorial for the most famous of all residents of your fine city .
