PA Teacher of the Year Nominations for BASD
Each year , the Department of Education presents the Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year award . It is a rigorous assessment and interview process for those that are nominated to potentially receive the award . Kindergarten through senior year teachers are eligible to be nominated . The Department of Education began this award for teachers in 1957 . It is an incredible honor to be nominated for the outstanding contributions that these individuals have made in and out of the classroom .
Bellefonte Area School District had a total of seven teachers nominated this past school year ! Unfortunately , none of these teachers made it to the final round , but several made it past the first round . Each teacher was required to do the following for the initial nomination :
• Nominated by one or more families .
• A nominating family had to write a letter of support for their teacher .
• Achieve a letter of support from a colleague .
• Achieve a letter of support from their building administrator .
• Achieve a letter of endorsement from the superintendent .
• Complete an application .
• Complete an essay that focused upon educational initiatives and professional practice .
The seven teachers included : Lata Anantheswaran , a second grade teacher at Benner Elementary School ; Eric Brinser , a Drama and Choir teacher at Bellefonte Area High School ; Arimani Davy , a Science teacher at Bellefonte Area High School . Drew Eddinger , also a Science teacher at Bellefonte Area High School ; Nicole Harris , also a second grade teacher at Benner Elementary ; Caleb Rebarchak , the Band and Music teacher at Bellefonte Area High School ; and Jackie Wynkoop , an English / Language Arts Coach for the Bellefonte Area School District .
This process was a very memorable experience for each of these teachers . They are amazing educators and human beings , and are very deserving of their initial nominations . The Bellefonte Area School District is very honored to have these educators represent the district . Congratulations to these teachers , and thank you for the work that you all put in within the classroom and to our community !
