Nerja desert racer challenging in world championship !
Having raced around the world in various rallies including Dakar , now at the ripe old age of 56 Kurt Burroughs ( pictured ) is still trying to compete with the best when really he says , he should be kicking back and taking it easy !
This year he ’ s competing in the Baja world championship in July and August . Baja racing is a three-stage desert race of up to 500kms per stage / day of navigation and off-road riding .
Being the oldest guy in the competition has its challenges . It ’ s a real physical and mental test , racing at speeds of up to 170kmh while trying to navigate over sand and dirt terrain in the heat .

He ’ s completed two rounds of the championship this year in Qatar and Portugal . He is currently in eighth place in FIM World ranking and first in the veteran class . Kurt is hoping to try and finish as high as possible in the ranking ... then think about kicking back and taking it easy !
