LETTER FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
The summer months have begun to heat things up outside . We are getting to that time of year where the mowers are running constantly to try and keep up with the bermuda and its rapid growth pattern .
The new pumpstation is performing quite well since its installation in mid-May . It is allowing us to put more volume of water out at night throughout the property . We should also start seeing a slight savings on our electric bill as well with improved efficiency of the system . We are getting occasional rains to help things along , but it is tough through the dry spells getting enough water on mounds and bunker faces to maintain consistent growth of the bermuda . We will keep using fertilizers and wetting agents to improve turf quality in these areas .
This is a tough time of year to keep up with the weed pressure on the course . We are trying to rotate through the golf course allowing us to get 2 or even 3 applications on some the worst areas . If we can get on a consistent spray cycle , the weeds will slowly get less and less on the golf course . Our applications of pre-emergent weed control will also continue throughout the summer to help build up a layer of resistance in the soil to keep the weeds from emerging . With frequent rains it is hard to maintain those barriers , but with a consistent program we can greatly reduce the number of weeds .
Just a friendly reminder to everyone , STAY HYDRATED !!! It is very easy in this heat and humidity to experience severe dehydration symptoms that could quickly develop into heat sickness and heat stroke . If you are not sweating , you are in trouble ! That is how our body cools itself . Look out for each other and stay safe !
