Cycle lane
Nerja councillors have approved plans for the first phase a cycle lane along the eastbound N-340 road . It will cover 900 metres between the Burriana roundabout to the Oasis de Capistrano roundabout , and has a budget of € 418,000 . A second phase is planned which extend the lane further towards the village of Maro .
Frigiliana footpath
A footpath from Frigiliana to the Sierra Tejeda , Almijara and Alhama mountains has been opened alongside the Frigiliana to Torrox road . The clay path is protected by wooden railings and offers walkers views from the coast to the mountains . The initiative is one of a number designed to attract tourists to inland villages .
River park
A 54-kilometre river park is being planned west of Málaga . It will stretch from the Guadalhorce estuary through natural beauty spots to the Caminito del Rey and , at 4.5 million square metres , will be the biggest of its kind in Spain . The project will cost around € 200 million and will take several years to complete .
Sailing in
Cruise ships are expected to return to Málaga ’ s port this month . The Port Authority says they will operate on domestic routes only , as calling at foreign ports is still prohibited . The Authority ’ s president Carlos Rubio has praised the Andalucían government for being a “ pioneer ” in devising a protocol for the cruising sector .
Dog rescue
A stray dog trapped in a hole for more than 12 hours has been freed by a Málaga fire crew . Residents in the Puerto de la Torre district heard the animal whimpering but were unable to locate it at first . A team from the local fire brigade were eventually able to remove large quantities of rocks to reach the dog which , while dehydrated , appeared fit and well as it was taken to animal shelter .
Road upgrades
The provincial government has approved Nerja ’ s plans to renovate calles Córdoba and Zuloaga with a budget of around € 300,000 . Mayor José Alberto Armijo confirmed work will start after the summer tourism season . The five-month long upgrade of nearby calle María de Waard was completed in April .

Nerja poachers detained

Two people have been detained and a further three are under investigation following a police operation against poaching in Nerja . Enquiries began in December after the owner of a private hunting reserve in the municipality reported that the number of ibex mountain goats had suffered a dramatic reduction . The consequent economic damage has been estimated at € 60,000 .
The investigation quickly determined that those involved were part of the local agricultural community enabling them to be aware of the movements of their target animals . In one case , officers from the Seprona division of the Guardia Civil discovered that a large illegal trap had been installed .
Torrox has moved forward on its plans for a golf course in the Calaceite area , close to the border with Nerja . Last month , the town hall signed the papers which give it 78.22 per cent of Calaceite Golf SL , formed in 2005 to promote the project . The remaining shares are presently by held by Level , a Madrid promoter .
The move gives the town control of the company with the mayor , Óscar Medina , as its chairman . However , he said that the development of a golf course must go hand in hand with plans for a marina in the same area , a project which was promised by the president of the regional government , Elías Bendodo at the end of last year .
The plan for a golf course on the coast of Torrox has been in the town ’ s local development plan since 1992 and is projected to cover 100 hectares of land , with an associated development of 3,157 homes . The mayor added that his
Police say that poaching was carried out both at daytime and during the night throughout the year . They believe that , with the poacher ’ s homes nearby , those responsible could make a quick getaway along with their kills .
Six searches were made at local properties where officers seized ten ibex hunting trophies , along with firearms and ammunition , plus equipment related to stealth hunting . The weapons included an illegal shotgun and another weapon on which the calibre had been modified .
All those implicated face charges including wildlife offences , illegal possession of weapons , and fraudulent connections to the electricity supply .

Bullring shoot
Filming was underway at Antequera bullering last month for a forthcoming Netflix production , Red Notice . More than 300 extras were hired after being tested for coronavirus and were required to wear masks at all times , except when recording was underway . No animals were in the ring , but nevertheless the crowd was asked to express “ joy , amazement , misunderstanding and uncertainty ” to the cameras .
