Porn arrest
A 47-year-old man has been detained in Málaga after he was found in possession of 88,000 files depicting child pornography , some of which featured children younger than 12 years . The investigation began after police became aware of indecent material being downloaded from various Internet sites and searched the suspect ’ s home . Several computers and storage devices were taken for examination .
New restaurant
Anyone interest in building and operating a new town centre restaurant on Nerja ’ s Calahonda beach has until July 5 to submit a bid to the town hall . The winner of the 25-year concession will have to pay a minimum fee of € 20,000 a year to the town hall . Applicants are required to respect the area with the building materials chosen for the project , immediately to the east of the Balcón de Europa .
Safe airport
Málaga ’ s airport has received the certification of the International Airports Council which confirms compliance with sanitary measures . Guidelines from the WHO amongst others were incorporated in Aena ’ s Operational Recovery Plan which has been implemented in all airports in the network . The work at Málaga airport has been carried out with cooperation from airlines as well as European aeronautical authorities .
Blue flags
Nerja ’ s Burriana and Torrecilla beaches , and the marina at Caleta de Vélez have received Blue Flags from the Association for Environmental Education . The annual awards following inspections a range of criteria including environmental aspects , water quality and safety . The province of Málaga received a total of 41 flags this summer , 11 more than last year , with the lakes at Ardales becoming a recipient for the first time .
Tourism video
Nerja , Frigiliana and Vélez-Málaga were amongst local towns featured in a special video shown to visitors at the annual Fitur International Tourism Fair in Madrid last month . Málaga-born Antonio Banderas participated in the making of the short film which celebrates the “ talent , happiness and hospitality ” of the province of Málaga . The presentation was at the centre of a € 850,000 campaign by Costa del Sol Tourism .

Petition signed against “ nuisance ” airfield

Residents who live close to the Leoni Benabu airfield in Vélez-Málaga have been collecting signatures on a petition which questions its operational procedures . They claim to experience “ serious nuisance and danger ” caused by the “ constant ” flights of light aircraft from the site .
People in the north of Vélez and in smaller population centres including Trapiche and Benamocarra got together on social networks and have now started collecting signatures on both a physical petition and at the online site change . com . Letters of complaint have also been sent to Vélez- Málaga Town Council , to the State Agency for Aviation Safety ( AESA ) and to the Department of Education demanding that aircraft should be prevented from flying over inhabited urban centres . Complaints have also been lodged by GENA , the ecologists group , which wants guarantees that flying over urban centres is not permitted .

Málaga supports city tourism

As tourism begins to recover in Spain , the City Council in Málaga is offering a boost to the city ’ s hotels and tourist apartments . On May 17 , councillors approved a pot of € 1 million to be paid in direct aid to those offering accommodation to visitors .
Tourism has been hit very hard by the pandemic with fewer visitors resulting in revenue drops of more than 80 per cent . The city is offering hotels a total of € 900,000 to be paid out at the rate of € 150 per room , while apartment operators can get a share of the remaining € 100,000 payable at € 100 per room .

Aeroclub , has claimed that most of the complaints have come from foreigners who have bought illegal properties in the countryside and are exploiting them as tourist accommodation . He says that all flights are authorised by the Civil Aviation authority , have flight plans , and comply “ scrupulously ” with the regulations . The AESA says the airfield “ complies with all regulations .”
For some time , Vélez Town Council has been trying to find a way to expand the airfield to allow its use by commercial freight aircraft and private jets . However , this would require lengthening the runway by at least 400 metres which would be complicated because of its proximity to the course of the Benamargosa river .
