David Pekoske was confirmed by the U . S . Senate as the Transportation Security Administra- tion ’ s ( TSA ' s ) seventh adminis- trator in August 2017 .
He leads a workforce of approxi- mately 64,000 employees and is responsible for security oper- ations at nearly 440 airports throughout the United States , the Federal Air Marshal Service , and shared security for high- ways , railroads , ports , mass transit systems and pipelines .
Under his leadership , TSA improved security for both avia- tion and surface transportation through close partnerships and alliances , a culture of innova- tion , and development of a ded- icated workforce .
