A FRIENDLY NOTE FROM PETER BECKER, GLENVIEW RESIDENT SINCE 2015:
I think the way the GPD has handled the situation has been very impressive. Keeping trails at Gallery Park open,
adding simple one way signs and social distancing signage, slowly and safely opening golf and tennis courts,
and communicating often has been critical to residents' sanity. Still being able to go for a run around Lake
Glenview, going up to Gallery Park to feed the ducks with my kids, riding a bike through Johns Park, or riding
scooters with my kids around Swenson Park has all been paramount for my mental health and stability the past
two months.
On a recent trip to Johns Park to ride bikes with my family, I noticed big beautiful signage from the Park District
paying homage to the essential workers and those putting their lives on the front lines. I looked up and noticed
and it brought a smile to my face. Instead of seeing signs to "Get a pool pass" it was a message of "Thank you to
those we have all been counting on these past difficult weeks." A little thing, but something that caught my eye
and made me feel good, made me proud of the work the GPD is doing.
The Park District has taken all the right measures to keep its residents safe and healthy above all else. I notice
this (and I am sure I am not alone) and applaud the Park District for doing what they can to keep residents sane
during these wild times in our society when so much seems to be off limits.
