I have no energy. I feel emotionally empty. Why? Because a few hours before I started writing this, my sister, Kathleen, died. Thanks be to God, I was there and gave her Last Rites. Kathleen and I were not close as children. Nor were we close as young adults. However, during the past 20 years she and I got very close. So, her loss drains me. Kathleen was denied many of the pleasures most of us experience. She had many reasons to feel deprived. By contrast, my sister, Claudette, and I were blessed in many ways Kathleen was not. Despite her deprivations, though, Kathleen was always a giver. She constantly chose to be Christ-like. Kathleen was always willing to sacrifice herself for others. It was she who waited on my mother, hand and foot, 24-hours-a-day, in mom’s declining years And, God bless, Kathleen did have treasures in her life. She was blessed with two beautiful and intelligent daughters, four handsome and intelligent grandsons and two cute as buttons and bright as the sun granddaughters. Therefore, in recognition of Kathleen’s immense love for Relatives of Fr. Mike, From l. to r.: Kathleen (sister), Fr. Mike, Mary (mother), and Catherine (mother-in-law) children, I tell you in her honor what the students of a fifth grade class told their teacher. They said the following is what they had learned about God from TV commercials. I have sure belief Kathleen is now in heaven and knows it’s all true. Continued on page 8
