June 2018 SPECIAL EDITION March 2015 Issue | Seite 5

March, 2015 Dr. Seuss on the Loose at VOL School Visitation of Our Lady School recently held a Kindergarten Literacy Night with a Dr. Seuss theme. Teachers and assistants dressed in characters such as the Cat in the Hat and Things 1, 2, and 3. Students dressed in their pajamas and rotated to various stations to earn stickers for their participation. The kindergarteners were served “green eggs and ham,” a dish from the popular Dr. Seuss story by the same name. At the science table, students were taught to make "oobleck," a substance first described in a 1949 Seuss story, Bartholomew and the Oobleck, in which a king wished for something other than rain to fall from the sky. (Oobleck has properties of both liquids and solids. A dipped hand into the substance feels like a liquid, but if the oobleck is squeezed or punched, it feels solid. Other activities included making bird feeders, face painting, art projects, literacy and math activities, and more! We don’t know who enjoys this annual family event more - the students or the parents! Photo 1 - Aiden Marks makes “ "oobleck” with his father and kindergarten teacher Kim Stahel.
