VOL Students Teach Stewardship
Good Stewards are good stewards because they are also Good
Shepherds. Jesus uses the illusion often. He wants us to be good

shepherds.
Beginning Experience
Back in Jesus’ day, people believed sheep are not the brightest

animals on God’s green earth. In fact, two thousand years ago people

believed sheep are so stupid they require constant help. Well, the

And, relying on the misperception of the people, when Jesus tells us he

wants us to be Good Shepherds, he is saying, “Take care of the needy,

especially those in greatest need. That is one of the hallmarks of being
Christian. It is required duty.”
Extending Jesus’ metaphor, here’s what we need to do to become Good Shepherds/Good Stewards and
get into heaven. We must constantly look for people to
help. When we see them, we must actually offer them
help, even if the price to us is extraordinarily high.
When Jesus saw us and how needy we are, he didn’t
back off. He helped, even though the price was
excruciatingly high.
We are supposed to be Good Shepherds/Good
Stewards in both little ways and in big ways. So much
so, looking for the needy to help should be a constant in
our lives. Looking for opportunities to help should
always be on our minds. We don’t want to miss an
opportunity.
