Page 3 Archbishop Aymond to Hold Synod Session at Visitation of Our Lady Parish syn·od [SIN-ud] -n A local or special church council, esp of a diocese, formally convened to discuss church affairs With 118 Catholic parishes and mission churches in the Archdiocese of New Orleans, many visitors and locals alike often find themselves asking for the location of the nearest church or wondering what church has a mass time that can fit their schedules. Now, they need look no further than a few swipes with the Archdiocese of New Orleans “Where Y’at?” Mass Finder App. The free app available on iTunes and in the Android Market allows users to quickly search for a nearby Catholic Church by GPS location within the eight civil parishes of the Archdiocese of New Orleans or by time of day they wish to attend a Mass. In addition, the app offers easy access to local and world Benjamin Franklin once said, “By failing to prepare, you are p reparing to fail.” These words of wisdom can apply to families, businesses, and even churches. In order to grow, we must take time to reflect on what we’re doing well and what things can be improved. We’ll get a chance to help the Archdiocese of New Orleans do just that next month. Archbishop Aymond has called the Ninth General Synod of the Archdiocese of New Orleans to discern God’s vision and priorities for our local Church for the next several years. A Synod is simply a gathering of people reflecting on a topic, then sharing their ideas. Visitation of Our Lady Parish will host the West Bank session of the Synod on Thursday, August 21 at 6:30 pm in Padre Hall II. Everyone on the West Bank is invited to attend. Participants will be asked to reflect on 3 questions concerning the Archdiocese, then share their responses (either verbally or in writing.) Archbishop Aymond will listen to participants, and the Synod Leadership Team will be taking notes. Participants will also have an opportunity to complete surveys which will be collected at the end of the Synod and reviewed by the Archbishop and Synod Leadership Team. The Synod is a perfect opportunity for Catholics to express their needs, expectations, and aspirations regarding the Archdiocese, and to play an integral part of its future. Come and share your thoughts and suggestions about what the Archdiocese is doing well and what it can do better.
