Good Stewards Get To Heaven By Living
As Chips Off The Ole Block
I’m a priest. So, I read lots of Scripture. One of my favorite passages is
1 Jn 3:1. That’s where St. John reveals that we are children of God. Stop! Re-
read those magnificent words: we are “children of God.” Let me say it again:
STOP!! Let’s let that truly marvelous thought roll around in our minds and
hearts. Let’s let it bounce around in our souls. You and I are extraordinarily
special. We are God’s CHILDREN.
And, there’s more. One verse down in 1 Jn 3:2, St. John says that when
we get to heaven, we will be LIKE GOD. Well, I guess if we believe what John
reveals in 1 Jn 3:1, that we are God’s children, the revelation one verse later

must forgive all, choose to serve and not be served, and choose to be last and
not first. In short, we must LOVE. ALL! Now, there’s no way around it, that’s
daunting. But, here’s the good news. Our God loves us so much he does not
require that we get the job done perfectly. In fact, our God loves us so much
that all he requires is a good faith effort and a passing grade. I’m not recom-
mending it, but a good faith effort and a D-minus gets us to heaven. Try hard to
