FEBRUARY 2016
VOL Students Design Cajun Fest T-Shirts
Each year VOL students have an opportunity to submit a new design for the Cajun Fest t-shirt. Last year was
special, because the Cajun Fest Committee needed two t-shirt designs - one for the Cajun Fest, and one for
the 5K Road Race. Students submitted dozens of designs for the 2016 shirts, and the winning designs are
below. The designers of this year’s winning designs, Haley Tran and Forrest Chessher, IV, tell their story of
how they were inspired to create their design.
Hi, my name is Haley Tran. I am in 6th
grade. I have attended Visitation ever since
Pre-K-3. I strive to do my best in
everything. This is my first year entering the
Cajun Fest T-shirt contest. My love for art
inspired me to enter this contest. God gave me
the gift to draw, and I want to use it to share
it with others. I love to draw and paint
realistic things like flowers and animals. It
makes me happy when others enjoy looking at
my art work. I hope I can continue my drawings
and inspire others.
My name is Forrest Chessher, IV., and I am 10
years old. I am a 5th grade student and I have
attended VOL since Pre-K-4. I love music, playing
Legos, and Minecraft. I have built 8 different
worlds on Minecraft, which include an 8-story
luxury cruise ship, several mansions, and much
more. I even built the U.S. President's jet from a
picture I saw. I am very creative and have great
ideas for a business. I plan to attend Shaw High
School and I would like to become an engineer or
an inventor.
My mom encouraged me to enter my drawing
for the Cajun Festival Road Race T-shirt Contest,
so I did! I decided to draw a crab because it's my
favorite seafood. I was so excited when I heard
that I won! I couldn't believe it! Now, I can't wait
to wear my shirt to the race.
