APRIL 2017

Cajun Fest Proves It Does Sometimes Take A Village

As I am writing this little article , I don ’ t yet have the final financial numbers for Cajun Fest 2017 . However , I do know this : Cajun Fest 2017 was fabulous . God blessed us with great weather . Huge crowds enjoyed the wonderful weather all weekend . The fair grounds were packed wall to wall on Friday night , making it the second highest grossing Friday night in the history of Cajun Fest . And , Saturday night was even better . It set a new Cajun Fest record for Saturday nights . Overall , I anticipate the weekend will gross approximately $ 290,000 , making it the second highest money maker in the storied history of the West Bank ’ s biggest and best festival .
Hundreds of people made this all happen . Many of them worked all year long . During the festival itself , many put in 20-hour days . And , of course , none of them were paid a penny . When it comes to Cajun Fest , a village of people get together to serve the VOL community . They work hard . They bring tons of talent to the table . And , if you have ever paid just a little attention while at the Fair , you know they party hardy all weekend long . They define FUN .
Special thanks go this year to the four cochairs of Cajun Fest 2017 . Danny and Stephanie Laurent and Randy and Martha Sheuermann deserve tons of credit for bringing back old favorites and introducing new wrinkles . They gave us a line-up of what I believe were the best bands and , by far , the best food in the history of Cajun Fest .
I enjoyed every second of Cajun Fest . And that includes the two times I had confetti dumped all over me , once by Peyton Wunderlich , who paid good money for that honor and once by it seemed the entire Men ’ s Club . They also paid for the joy of having great fun at the expense of their pastor . In addition , for the second year in a row , Blake Ehret won the right at the Silent Auction to slam a whipped cream pie into Father Mike ’ s face . I hope they enjoyed it . I LOVED it .
It ’ s a genuine joy to be a part of the wonderfully good people of the Visitation of Our Lady village .
