of Duggies Buggies showed off his latest project
Thursday – a four-man bobsled to be converted to
The bobsled was handed over to Williams and his custom golf car company in order to get it ready for the
Calgary Stampede parade this year.
“They’re going to use it for the parade, and for other events,” said Williams.
Williams said his company was selected as the team to make the needed modifications because of their
experience and creativity – though he noted this was the first time any of them had ever worked on a bobsled
specifically.
“It’s been a challenge right from day one,” said Williams. “There’s been a lot of thinking that has gone into
trying to make everything fit the way it should.”
Among the modifications were switching out runners for axles and wheels, and turning steering ropes into a
working steering wheel. The front end has been rebuilt from a Club Car, with a powertrain and motor taken
from a Yamaha electric golf cart.
“We had to cut the frame and the suspension in the front so we could get the bobsled as low as we could,” he
said. “We reinforced everything after cutting it all up. It’s just been a lot of cutting, welding and bracing. It’s
a lot of fabricating.”
The bobsled now does about 12 miles per hour, according to Williams. He said he believes it may have gone
down the bobsled run during the ’88 Olympics in Calgary.
“It’s been a fun challenge,” said Williams. “We all feel very privileged to get to work on something like this.”
