KART SERIES AT SPEEDWAY 51
Things are coming together better than ever for the North Country Family Restaurant Kart series at Speedway 51, powered by the Autosavers Group, for 2017. It was a big opening day at Lil’ Speedway 51 – powered by the Autosavers Group, sponsored by Waste Oil Heating Systems of Vermont.
Christopher " Cridda " Shannon, third generation Speedway 51 driver, of Lancaster, unloaded his # 111 kart and swept the competition in the Batch’ s Kwik Stop Pro division. He won the feature event, his heat, and the newly added trophy dash. Shannon was followed by another third generation driver Julian Kenison, of Groveton, and Cody Brown rounded out the top three. Aaron Smith of Irasburg, Vt., won his respective heat. Luke Shannon, second generation driver, of Groveton, picked up where he left off in 2016 with a feature win and a trophy dash win to begin his season in the Batch’ s Kwik Stop Mini Pro division. Following Shannon was the 2016 Rookie Champ Jesse Laquerre of East Montpelier, Vt., and Logan Herriott of Gorham. Laquerre and Jesse Dunham of Fairlee, Vt., won their respective heat races. The up and coming talented youngsters in the Batch’ s Kwik Stop Jr. Mini Pro division put on outstanding races considering it is only their second year of competing for most of the drivers. Second generation driver Kaiden Fisher from Shelburne, Vt., also swept the competition with a shared win in the feature, a win in his heat and the trophy dash. Fisher shared the feature win with second generation driver McKenna Merchant of N. Concord, Vt., followed by Logan Farnsworth and Autumn Bushey and Evan Gilbert rounding out the top three awarded positions. Merchant won her respective heat race. This group of kids is the future of Speedway 51 and show a lot of talent at a very young age. The first timers in the rookie class had a great first day. Once they shook off the shyness they were unstoppable. Jacob Dunham of Fairlee, Vt. won the trophy dash and crossed the line taking the checkers in the feature event followed by Connor Charbonneau and Kamrin Boutin. Boutin won his respective heat race.
Next Saturday, June 17, the North Country Family Restaurant Karts will be back in action with a regular event sponsored by North Country Ford of Lancaster, starting at 10 a. m. Karts race at Lil’ Speedway 51 powered by the Autosavers Group on a special course designed just for the Karts on the asphalt in the pits. There are four Divisions: Batch ' s Kwik Stop Rookie, Batch ' s Kwik Stop Junior Mini Pro, Batch ' s Kwik Stop Mini Pro, and Batch ' s Kwik Stop Pro. Pit Entrance Fee: $ 10( under age 5 is $ 5 except drivers). Spectator Grandstand Admission is free.
The karts are not governed by Speedway 51 powered by the Autosavers Group. Fees and sponsorship that are given support the karting program.
