Legal Aid Society Celebrates Justice for All with Peace , Love and Hippies
On Saturday evening May 20 , 2023 , the doors of the Palm Beach County Convention Center opened to welcome 500 guests and supporters of The Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County . The event was a 1960 ’ s themed fundraiser held to raise much needed funds for Legal Aid Services and was a tribute to Harreen Bertisch , long time Legal Aid Director of Development .
The evening honored Legal Aid volunteers and donors who have gone a step above in their commitment to providing equal justice for all . The firm Holland & Knight was recognized with the “ And Justice for All ” award for their donation of pro bono work on behalf of Legal Aid clients . Matthew Zimmerman , Esq . accepted the award on behalf of the firm . Scott B . Smith , Esq . was honored with the “ Suzanne and John Foley Serving Justice ” Award for his long-term commitment to the mission and vision of Legal Aid .
Chairwomen of the event were Bridget Berry , Esq ., Juliana Blanc , Shelley Garcia , and Bernadette Shalhoub . During the evening the chairwomen announced the creation of the “ Harreen Bertisch Children ’ s Advocacy ” Award and honored Harreen Bertisch posthumously . Jack Scarola led the evening ’ s call to the heart . Funds raised will endow a new staff position the “ Harreen Bertisch Child Advocate .”
