2018/2019 AQHA HIGH POINT NOVICE
CAMPDRAFT HORSE OF THE YEAR

SKG Performance Horses, from Cooma, NSW,
like so many AQHA members, are champing
at the bit for competition to begin again!
Many people think SKG stands for Scott and
Keryn Gardiner, but it actually stands for Scott,
Keryn and Gai. At 67, Gai McBurnie, who is
Keryn’s mother, is the more senior, but no less
competitive part of the SKG Performance
Horses partnership. With a wry sense of humour, Gai says that
when she passes on, those same initials can then stand for Scott
and Keryn Gardiner.
When Keryn began Campdrafting as a 14yo, Gai was not the type
to sit on the sidelines and ‘just be a spectator’. So at 43, she took
up the sport and has competed successfully ever since, most recently
competing on her mare Condamine Reola, better known as Roanie.
The pair have had some enjoyable success, with one instance seeing
her win the Nimmitabel Bell Feature Novice Draft in 2018. Gai still
thoroughly enjoys competing and is loving the social aspect of the
sport. Giving Gai more joy is watching her granddaughter starting
out in drafting, too, as well as keeping a watchful eye on the cattle for
