2020 PDA Recognition Award Dr. Mark S. Wolff Dr. Charles Incalcaterra, our immediate past president, presented the PDA Recognition Award to Dr. Mark Wolff on March 5 at the Valley Forge Dental Conference. I am honored to announce that Dr. Mark S. Wolff is the recipient of the 2020 PDA Recognition Award. Each year, the Annual Awards Committee selects a PDA member dentist who has contributed original research, or whose significant achievements and high standards have been of such character as to have materially aided and advanced the science and art of dentistry. Dr. Wolff stands out in so many ways, because of his extraordinary career as an educator and researcher, where for the past 38 years he has completed numerous international research and oral health assessment programs and has been a lifelong advocate and dental provider for individuals of all ages with physical, intellectual and developmental disabilities. Currently a professor in the Department of Prevention and Restorative Sciences and Morton Amsterdam Dean of the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, Dean Wolff has served as the principal or co-principal investigator on an array of clinical research projects involving dental caries, dental erosion, periodontal disease, dental materials and dentinal hypersensitivity. Prior to coming to Penn, Dr. Wolff’s educating of students and clinical contributions began at the School of Dental Medicine at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Stony Brook from 1981-2005 and the College of Dentistry at New York University from 2005-2018. He has been an affiliated faculty member of Global Health, Global Institute of Public Health at NYU since 2014. Dr. Wolff has published over 100 scientific papers and text chapters and edited multiple textbooks. He lectures worldwide and has been the principal or co-principal investigator on nearly $1 million in industrial and National Institutes of Healthfunded research. PDA is proud to recognize Dean Wolff’s contributions to the dental profession that will greatly impact the next generation of dental leaders. Congratulations, Dr. Wolff! Dr. Wolff’s acceptance speech: It is my great honor to be the recipient of the 2020 Pennsylvania Dental Association Recognition Award. I have been a lifelong advocate to bringing improved oral health to those who are most in need and to looking for answers for how we can support the smiles of everyone. I would like to thank Dr. Lauri Passeri, chair of the Second District Awards Committee, for kindly nominating me, and President Incalcaterra for taking the time to personally present me with the award this evening.
