Meet Your PDA
President
Dr. James A. Tauberg
By Rob Pugliese, Director of Communications
In a year unlike any other, Dr. James Tauberg
never could have dreamed this scenario, and he
certainly would not have chosen it. But nothing he
has encountered during the early months of his
presidency has dampened his passion for leading
the Pennsylvania Dental Association. If anything,
he is more energized than before, and very proud
of the hard work that has been done on behalf
of PDA members during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Tauberg is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon in Pittsburgh.
After graduating from the University of Pittsburgh School
of Dental Medicine in 1982, he completed General Dental
Practice and Anesthesiology residencies at the Montefiore
Hospital at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
He then headed to New York City to do a three-year
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at the New York
Hospital/Cornell Medical Center, now known as New
York-Presbyterian Hospital. He followed this with a year
of private practice in Manhattan, affiliated with the
Mount Sinai Medical Center and the Hospital for Joint
Diseases Orthopedic Institute. Dr. Tauberg then returned
to his hometown of Pittsburgh, where he started his own
practice and has been practicing ever since.
A PDA member since 1988, Dr. Tauberg has been on the
Board of Directors of the Dental Society of Western
Pennsylvania (DSWP) since 1990. He served as president
of the DSWP in 2002. At the state level he was PDA vice
president in 2013-14 and Tenth District trustee from
2015-2018. In addition to his private practice he is an
adjunct assistant professor in Oral and Maxillofacial
Surgery at Pitt dental school and is a Diplomate and
Fellow at numerous state and national organizations for
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Anesthesiology.
Dr. Tauberg is happily married to his wife Cindy and they
just celebrated their 39 th wedding anniversary (yes, they
were high school sweethearts). They have three children.
Jennifer, the oldest, lives in Baltimore, Md., with her
husband Jason and their three children, Madison, age 8,
Bryce, age 6 and Ryder, age 3. Jim and Cindy’s second
oldest is Brandon, who is married to his wife Lauren and
lives in Houston, Texas, where he is doing an Orthopedic
Surgery Fellowship in Sports Medicine. They are expecting
their first child in mid-September. The youngest, Joshua,
lives and works in the Pittsburgh area.
Dr. Tauberg is a member of the international gourmet
society, Chaine des Rotisseurs, where he enjoys
wonderful fellowship while appreciating fine food and
wine. He also enjoys his antique 47-year-old sports car, a
Lamborghini Espada that was his father’s and is now also
driven by a third generation of the family, his son Joshua.
