Impressions
Anyone that has served on a council or committee at any level of organized dentistry knows the time commitment at takes. The higher up the tripartite, the more time you spend on those activities and the further you have to travel. Sometimes Chicago is not the easiest place to get to.
I never considered myself an expert in testing when I was nominated for the Joint Commission back in 2007( and subsequently the CIE), and still don’ t after all of these years. There are unbelievably talented members and consultants who were truly experts on this committee, as well as the Department of Testing Services staff at the ADA, who are phenomenal. Together we have fulfilled the charge the CIE was given by the JCNDE back in 2009, and the national board exam will be forever changed. Future generations of our colleagues won’ t know Part 1 and 2, but only one exam that, as the CIE chair Dr. Mark Christensen said,“ will be a significant improvement – a change that will broadly impact and benefit the profession.”
