A Note From The Editor:
Over the past few weeks, a bunch of posts have gone viral about celebrities donating huge sums of money to animal rescue organizations. Country star Jelly Roll was said to be investing twenty million dollars to create a massive sanctuary devoted to rehoming thousands of stray and abandoned dogs. Actor Morgan Freeman reportedly pledged eleven million dollars on his 88th birthday to build a shelter for homeless cats and dogs. Rap artist Eminem supposedly donated ten million dollars to animal-related causes and organizations. This would be awesome if it were true. Unfortunately, all these wonderful claims have been debunked. At a time when shelters are overflowing with unwanted pets and straining to make ends meet, these rumors are just cruel.
But here ' s some good news that actually is happening: The owner of a local dog grooming shop, Taylor Yeagle, is launching a new nonprofit animal shelter in Lycoming County. Her rescue will be called The Safe Haus, and her mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals in need. Taylor is currently looking for a building donation or lease sponsorship to house the shelter, as well as donors and fundraising partners to help establish the 501( c)( 3) organization. A meeting to discuss the project will be held at The Hampton Inn in Williamsport on Sunday, July 27th, from 4- 6pm. Anyone frustrated by the state of animal care in our area and interested in making real change happen is encouraged to attend.
While it would be great to have lots of money to donate to all the rescues in need, showing up and lending a hand is vitally important, too. Here ' s a chance to make a difference in our own community.
Please message Taylor if you ' d like to be involved: lycosafehaus @ gmail. com. To donate to The Safe Haus: https:// gofund. me / 55a228c8. For details and updates: log on to Taylor ' s page on Facebook- The Safe Haus.
Thank you for caring!
