July is Lost Pet Prevention Month , so this month ' s spotlight will shine on an immensely helpful animal organization whose goal is to reunite lost pets with their owners .
Find Toby in PA is a Facebook page that began in 2012 for the sole purpose of reuniting an owner with his lost dog . Toby ’ s sixteen-day journey turned a community of strangers into dedicated volunteers working together to bring him home safe . Once this mission was completed , we recognized the value social media offered in the area of pet recovery and chose to utilize the page ’ s already established platform to assist other lost pet owners .
As the requests to assist with lost pets increased , the volunteers donated money and fundraised to purchase humane traps and trail cameras to aid in lost pet recovery . Our team has gathered a wealth of knowledge , information , and tools . In 2015 , a parent organization called Smart 4 Paws Inc . was founded , and we obtained a 501c3 nonprofit status in 2016 .
Find Toby in PA ' s page has grown to over 108,000 followers , and since 2016 , we ' ve helped to reunite over 25,000 pets in Central Pennsylvania and Northern Maryland .
We are a 100 % volunteer organization with a team of approximately 35 Virtual Volunteers who monitor and manage our Facebook page daily , from 8am to 10pm , 365 days a year . We also have a team of over 30 field volunteers who help with posting flyers , following up on sightings , and setting traps and trail cameras to help reunite lost pets .
Smart 4 Paws , Inc . is led by an all-volunteer Board of Directors who steer the organization to pursue our mission of bringing lost pets home . We continue to grow , learn , and serve Pennsylvania and our neighboring states .
