Recently discovered in 2017 , the Critically Endangered Blue-throated Hillstar is restricted to a very small range of páramo in southwestern Ecuador . Its declining population is estimated to be fewer than 110 individuals . Thanks to your support , Rainforest Trust , with partners Fundación de Conservación Jocotoco and the American Bird Conservancy , completed the protection of 1,172 acres in November 2022 to create the first Blue-throated Hillstar Reserve for this rare , iridescent hummingbird .
