Citizenship in the past 12 months . In this context Javier Rodriguez from Nerja Foreigners Department greeted all ‘ new ’ Nerja residents who came to the town from the Scandinavian country . Around 3rd June there are 1,139 officially registered Swedes in Nerja . They are steadily increasing . As for the Ukrainians , there are by now only 123 residents in Nerja though the number has almost doubled since the war started .
An Andalusian touch was added by serving Andalusian delicacies from Nerja ’ s emblematic restaurant El Sevillano . For some of the Ukrainian participants ( recently arrived refugees ) it was first taste of the local cuisine . The solidarity and thanksgiving party was with
band which specially for the event dressed in blue and yellow . Nerja town hall sent greetings to the participants of the event in honour of the National Day of Sweden by stressing that the town has become more and more attractive for Swedes .
Incidentally , 6th June is a day to celebrate the ‘ new Swedes ’ - people from other nationalities who have acquired the Swedish much smiling as well as tears in some emotional moments . For example , during the performance the moderator of the event Oksana Hryhorash received a video call from her brother fighting against invaders . He could watch and hear Ukrainian folk songs in the peaceful environment with the backdrop of the Nerja coast and directly receive encouragement and greetings from all spectators – Swedish , Ukrainian and Spanish , as well Dutch , British , German and French , among others .
