Although there are currently 54 members of the Commonwealth of Nations , 72 teams currently participate in the Commonwealth Games , as it is a feature of the Commonwealth Games that a number of dependent territories who do not compete separately at the Olympic Games , compete in the Commonwealth Games under their own flags .
The four Home Nations of the United Kingdom ( England , Scotland , Wales and Northern Ireland ) also send separate teams . For the purposes of the Commonwealth Games , 4 Home Nations , 3 Crown Dependencies and all but three of the inhabited Overseas Territories all of whom are represented by Team GB at the Olympic Games , instead attend as 14 separate delegations . The other three Overseas Territories - British Virgin Islands , Bermuda and Cayman Islands represent themselves at both events .
Nineteen cities in nine countries
( counting England , Scotland and Wales separately ) have hosted the games . Australia has hosted the Commonwealth Games five times ( 1938 , 1962 , 1982 , 2006 and 2018 ); this is more times than any other nation . Two cities have hosted Commonwealth Games more than once : Auckland ( 1950 , 1990 ) and Edinburgh ( 1970 , 1986 ).
Only six nations have participated in every Commonwealth Games : Australia , Canada , England , New Zealand , Scotland and Wales . Of these six , Australia , England , Canada and New Zealand have each won at least one gold medal in every Games . Australia has been the highest achieving team for thirteen editions of the Games , England for seven , and Canada for one . These three teams also top the all-time Commonwealth Games medal table in that order .
FRIDAY 1 – SUNDAY 24 Tour de France
The 2022 Tour de France Grand will
start in and around Copenhagen in 2022 , with three stages launching the race .
The 2022 start is essentially the original 2021 plan before the 2021 start was moved to Brittany owing to COVID-19 . So Denmark gets a second shot at it in 2022 .
Denmark isn ’ t the only guest country in 2022 - the Tour will also go into Belgium and Switzerland . It ’ ll be the first time since 2017 that four countries have featured on the route .
Climbs are spread across four mountain ranges : the Vosges , the Alps ( including a foray into Switzerland ), the Massif Central and the Pyrenees . In all there are six mountain stages , including five summit finishes ( La Super Planche des Belles Filles , Col du Granon , Alpe d ’ Huez , Peyragudes and the Hautacam ).
The Tour de France race will finish in Paris as usual . For the first time it will coincide with the start of the Tour de France Ladies .
In all , the 2022 Tour de France will cover 3328 kilometres of cycling ( that ’ s 2067 miles ).
