Farm markets are part of the summer scene

Hammontonians have plenty of options for fresh produce in town and the surrounding area at local farm markets .
Jennifer Pastore , of Pastore Orchards located at 626 White Horse Pike , described what was in season .
“ Right now what ’ s in season is obviously blueberries . We grow blackberries , so blackberries are in season . We ’ re starting to get some Jersey peaches . Corn is now coming into season ,” Pastore said .
In August , Pastore said it ’ s a good time for Jersey Fresh tomatoes as well as Jersey peaches , cantaloupes , watermelons and nectarines .
She also talked about the history of Pastore Orchards , which started growing produce in 1906 with 25 acres and has since expanded to over 400 acres today .
“ We ’ re a fourth generation familyowned farm , so my great-grandparents bought this land in the early 1900s and then my grandfather , Neil Pastore , he was a school teacher in Hammonton , a physics and chemistry teacher , and he did farming on the side in the summer and he and my grandmother started our market . And early on they grew some raspberries and had some peaches , but the market was pretty small . The market didn ’ t really get big until my mom and dad took it over , so once my mom and dad took it over it expanded to basically what you see today , and my mom had a lot to do with that ,” Pas-
