Photographer LoSasso , painter Domenico talk about their artistry

by KRISTIN GUGLIETTI
From sunrise to sunset , Leslie LoSasso walks around Hammonton taking over 100 pictures of nature each day .
“ I take photos every day . I take a walk usually in the morning or late afternoon , and I take anything I see on my way , mostly flowers . And then around sunset time , I go out about an hour , half an hour , before the sun sets , and it ’ s just beautiful . The sky ’ s constantly changing , so I can take a 100 pictures in an hour and a half . I love moon rises also ,” LoSasso said .
LoSasso has a strong belief and faith in God and said her photographic eye is God given .
“ I truly believe that any talent I have as a photographer is a gift from Him . I am very thankful ,” LoSasso said .
Since she was little , LoSasso always enjoyed taking photographs , and she

would be her family ’ s photographer . After retiring , she joined the Hammonton Arts Center , and today she continues to take photos in Hammonton .
“ The other night I was trying to catch the full moon and there were clouds , so while I was waiting for that there was a gorgeous sunset behind me ,” LoSasso said .
LoSasso keeps her camera settings on automatic when she ’ s shooting , and she also uses her cellphone ’ s camera .

LESLIE LOSASSO SITS NEXT TO ONE OF HER PHOTOGRAPHS THAT DEPICTS A SUNSET AT THE HAMMONTON ARTS CENTER .
“ I really know that the Lord sets the shots up for me , and I just take them . I don ’ t concern myself to have any talent of my own . He just sets the shot up , and I take the picture ,” LoSasso said .
Currently , LoSasso is branching out from taking sunset and flower pictures and is capturing new subjects like birds .
“ I have a bird feeder in front of my door outside my house , so I would sit in the foyer and take pictures of the birds ,” LoSasso said .
Many photographers edit their photos using Photoshop
and other editing apps , but LoSasso rarely edits her photos .
“ I don ’ t like over photoshopped works . I like more natural photos , and that ’ s what I strive for ,” LoSasso said .
Artists like Betty Domenico sometime use reference photos while painting .
“ Some of the paintings that I ’ ve done , I look at and I can ’ t believe that I did them because I don ’ t know how I did it ,” Domenico said .
Domenico started creating art when she was a child and honed her craft at art school .
“ It keeps me from going crazy ,” Domenico said .
Besides oil painting , Domenico also loves using pastels . After looking at a reference photo , she will use pastels for one art piece and then later create another piece using oils .
At art school , she was taught to do multiple drawings before getting into the painting part .
“ I like to do a lot of drawings first and then work into your oil painting ,” Domenico said .
