What ’ s Happening From Heidi …
As I sit here trying to figure out what I want to say this last month , there is actually quite a lot that I need to reflect on . First of all , as many have probably read in the paper or seen online , the Sparta Area Chamber of Commerce is looking for a new space to call its home . I am with the understanding that the Chamber was given this space after many hours were spent at the state level to secure funding to do some much needed improvements . Fast-forward 30 years and we are now at a crossroads . The Chamber has gone through many directors and staff members to get where it is today . I do not discredit all of the hard work that my predecessors have put into this position , and it has not gone unnoticed .
I feel though that I need to explain why we need to move . It is no longer a want , but now a need . With all of the work that the Chamber has done , we can proudly say that we have outgrown our space . We have three full-time team members , one part-time , and an intern . I , personally , would like to add onto our current location , but because the building is on the National Registrar List for Historical Buildings , I can ’ t even paint-believe me , I have asked .
I realize that there are quite a few people that are totally against this idea . I was in the beginning as well when I sat on the Board of Directors . Now , having to work in the space , I realize that it is pertinent for us to have the space that we need to continue in our success . There have been comments made about the Chamber going against its own members in order to do the things that we want to do . There are two businesses downtown that essentially sell the same type of products , and yet they are both successful . We are not looking to take away from any one business , but to add to the value of our town , and to be a DESTINATION not just a quick stop .
Now , for July we have the continuation of MiMS , Concerts in the Park , the July 16 and 17 Genesis Tournament , Crazy Daze , Business After 5 at the Fairgrounds on July 22 , the rain make-up date of the Kayak Rendezvous on July 24 , and on August 4 th our Annual Golf Outing . Throughout the month , be sure to stop down to one of our waterways and take your chance on trying to catch a tagged trout . I hope to see your smiling faces !
