M&B News Two Tagged Redfish Caught, One Winner! The opening weekend of the CCA Louisiana STAR was busy as two tagged redfish out of the 50 released were caught. The first tagged redfish of the year was unfortunately caught by unregistered angler, Glen Berard of Arnaudville. Glen caught his fish at Queen Bess Island just north of Grand Isle. “Almost every year an unregistered angler catches a tagged redfish on opening weekend,” said Rad Trascher, CCA STAR Tournament Director. “This angler misses out on a brand new Chevy Silverado and a possible bonus of $10,000 from Louisiana Sportsman Magazine.” The second tagged redfish was caught the day after Memorial Day by STAR registered angler, Raymond Champagne of Baton Rouge. Champagne was fishing with his daughter aboard their 20ft aluminum boat when he caught the redfish on a live shrimp at the “Barges” in Fourchon. Pending further verification and polygraph examination, he will be driving home a brand new Chevy Silverado from Super Chevy Dealers of Baton Rouge, Acadiana and New Orleans after the STAR Banquet in October. “It just shows you that the fish are out there and not hard to find,” said Rad Trascher, CCA STAR Tournament Director. “ So get registered and get fishing!” Signing up for STAR is easy! Whether it happens on the way down to the coast, on the dock or days in advance of a fishing trip, operators are standing by. License to Win! Boat Giveaway Winner Announced Carla Pratt of New Iberia will celebrate the Fourth of July holiday much differently than years prior. She and her family will take to Louisiana’s waterways on their brand new bay boat awarded to her via the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Foundation’s License to Win! Sweepstakes. The intent of the sweepstakes was twofold – to thank anglers for their unfettered support and improve the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries’ ability to contact anglers through a brief fishing effort survey, LA Creel. The success of LA Creel not only allows LDWF to better manage fisheries, but ultimately maximizes the amount of fishing opportunities for Louisiana anglers. 8 July 2016 www.marshandbayou.com
