Olive married Richard W. Hicks,
Sr., her high school sweetheart, in
Oct., 1946, at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Colebrook. She and
Richard made their home in Colebrook raising four children, Alison,
Katherine, Richard, Jr., and David.
When their children were young,
they enjoyed summers at their
camp on Lake Wallace, Vt. With
their children grown, she and Richard spent their winters in Port
Charlotte, Fla.
Olive was a life-long member of
St. Stephen’s Church where she
taught Sunday school, was a church
organist, and a member of the Wonder Workers. She was a 50-year
member of the Order of the Eastern
Star, Eureka Chapter 2, and she
enjoyed gardening, reading and
playing the piano.
She is survived by her children,
Alison Hicks Sweatt and husband
Van of Durham, Katherine Hicks
Tremblay and husband Gabriel of
Wolfeboro, Richard Hicks, Jr. and
wife Joni of Colebrook, and David
Hicks, Sr. and wife Cindy of Colebrook; seven grandchildren and 11
great-grandchildren; and a sister,
Jean Haynes of Colebrook.
She is predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Richard W. Hicks,
Sr., in 2012, and by her brother,
Howard N. Keach, Jr.
Calling hours will be at the
Jenkins and Newman Funeral
Home in Colebrook on Sunday, July
10, 2016, from 2 to 4 p.m. An
Episcopal funeral will be held the
next morning, Monday, July 11, at
11 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Church in
Colebrook, with interment to immediately follow at the Colebrook Village Cemetery.

DAVID W. PURRINGTON
COLEBROOK–David W. Purrington, 62, of Colebrook, passed
away suddenly and unexpectedly in
Charlotte, N.C., on June 29, 2016.
He was born on Aug. 28, 1953,
in West Stewartstown, a son to the
late Linwood N. and Lila (Lyons)
Purrington, Sr. He was raised in
Colebrook and was a 1971 graduate
of Colebrook Academy. For many
years, he lived with his family in
Dixville Notch, as they were the
winter caretakers for the property
when the resort was closed.
Like his father before him,
David was a well-known local master electrician for many years. He
also worked for many years as an
apprentice embalmer and funeral
director for the Jenkins Funeral
Home. He was a member of the
Colebrook Fire Dept. for 25 years,
and he was a Past Master of Evening Star Lodge #37, F. & A.M.
Always a quiet and private man,
David preferred to do and accomplish things without acknowledgment. He always had to be busy,
but his greatest pride and joy was
his family and spending time with
them.
David is survived by his wife,
Gail (Coombs) Purrington of Colebrook; his children, Kristen Purrington and her partner Shannon
Allard and his son Michael, all of
Belmont, Michael Purrington and
wife Tara of Chelmsford, Mass.,
Sherron Coletti and husband
Shaun Lacroix of Colebrook, and
Beth Parker of Galveston, Tex.; his
grandchildren, Aaden, Owen and
Teagan Purrington, and Jacob and
Samantha LaFrance; the mother of
his children, Celeste Riendeau and
husband Guy of Colebrook; two
nieces and two nephews; and his
faithful canine companions, Maisy,
Houston and Sophie.
He is preceded in death by a
brother, Linwood Purrington, Jr., a
sister Nancy Thompson, and an
infant sister, Lucille.
The family will receive visitors
at the Jenkins and Newman
Funeral Home in Colebrook, on
