SAWYERVILLE
BAPTIST KIDS CLUB
Saturday, under sunny skies,
the Sawyerville Baptist Kids
Club met at the church to
embark on a fun-filled afternoon
at the Island Brook Fish and
Game Club's pond for fishing and
fun which included a hot-dog
barbecue for lunch.
We met up with them at 11
a.m. at the fish pond. The children with fish pole in one hand
and bait in the other headed
towards the pond for some fun.
It was time to teach a worm to
swim into a fish’s mouth. The
excitement level was through the
roof as 18 boys and girls tried to
catch a monster fish.
We came along and found
18-month-old Arabella giving
fishing a try. She took the time
for a photo, but then it was time
to get back to fishing. A little
after noon, Craig McBurney, the
hot dog cook, yelled that lunch
was ready. It didn't take long for
all to arrive and grab a plate to
enjoy a hot dog or three.
After lunch it was back to the
fun and games with Mary
McBurney. The organizers, Mac
Burns, Mary McBurney, Craig
McBurney and others certainly
give their all to these young boys
and girls. The afternoon ended
up with a Bible story done by
Mary, then all was packed up
and a tired group of children and
adults headed home after a fun
day.

SHERBROOKE
AIRPLANE SHOW
Over the weekend, the Sherbrooke Airport hosted the 22nd
annual Fauchers de Marguerite
fly-in and airplane show. This
year over 170 planes both big
and tiny arrived, according to
organizer and pilot Jim Innes
from Sherbrooke. The weekend
included over 2000 visitors from
all over the surrounding area
and some from far beyond.
Every year, on the last weekend of June, you can plan on
visiting this special weekend of
flight. The sound of aircraft
engines fills the air at this small
but mighty airport. We walked
around and visited with the
pilots and their families and
found everything from the tiniest
one seat planes right up to 6seaters. Homemade planes and
factory built planes, and they all
have one thing in common–they
fly, and give their pilots a thrill.
This annual event has over
the years drawn everything from
Canadian Forces F-18 fighters to
creations of the very first WWI
flying machines to Dash 18 commercial airliners. This type of
show shows the public that airplanes are not only for the rich
and famous. They are also for the
Average Joe that loves to fly like
a bird.
We visited with local pilot and
friend to all, Jim Innes. Jim was
proud to show us his 1946 Arena
Champion aircraft. We asked if
he still flew much. He was quick
to tell us “Every chance I get!” He
says he leaves his worries on the
ground and soars through the air
enjoying every second of his
flight.
The airport was buzzing with
incoming and outgoing flights all
weekend. The skies were clear
with not much wind. This made
it a perfect weekend to fly. We
even checked out some Gyro-Copters. (This reporter would like to
