VERMEER’S MANIA FOR MAPS
“DINOSAURS UNEARTHED” EXHIBIT
ENGINEERING PROGRAM DESIGN
Jim Welu, Loras College alumnus and director emeritus of the Worcester Art Museum,
will present a talk on 17th-century Dutch
artist Johannes (Jan) Vermeer’s detailed
depictions of maps and globes and the great
age of exploration and mapmaking. These
cartographic objects, and the ways in which
Vermeer used them, shed light on the artist’s
working methods, including his possible use
of the camera obscura. Admission is free.

Dinosaurs may be notorious for their size
and ferocious reputation, but it’s their
softer, feathered side that will be turning
heads at the Museum & Aquarium.
Life-sized animatronic dinosaurs, along with
stunning fossil and skeleton specimens, take
center stage in this captivating exhibition
where guests experience an in-depth look
at dinosaurs from across Asia and North
America. Visit RiverMuseum.com.
Students in grades 5-8 use their physical science skills to design and build a
gravity powered vehicle, protect precious
structures, design a pinball machine, and
learn how to build a road. Program is in
partnership with Iowa State Extension and
Outreach. Participation is free, but space
is limited and pre-registration is required.

Engage with Oprah Winfrey’s “All-Time Favorite Guest,” Dr. Tererai Trent. One of today’s most
internationally recognized voices for quality education and women’s empowerment, she
is a scholar, humanitarian, motivational speaker, educator, mentor, and founder of Tererai

and undeterred by traditional women’s roles and cultural norms, Dr. Trent taught herself to
read, write, and so much more. Refreshments will be provided. Participation is free, but preregistration is required. Visit MFCDbq.org.
