If this test is positive or reactive, then it
means that the person has been exposed
to hepatitis C and that more blood tests
will be done to confirm this diagnosis (the
initial test can sometimes be falsely positive). Once diagnosed, the sub-type (also
known as genotype) of hepatitis C will be
determined. This consists of a number from
one through six. Genotype one is the most
common sub-type in this country, followed
by two and three.
If patients are diagnosed with hepatitis C,
it is important to get vaccinated against
Hepatitis A and B to prevent co-infection/
