Magic Inside the
Christmas Tree

hen I was young and just past three
I’d crawl beneath our Christmas tree
Enraptured by wonder and secret sights
Imagining magic in twinkling lights
I’d lie on my back at ripe age of four
Under our tree and start to explore
Searching the heights for brightest star
And objects mysterious to my radar
And what new worlds might children see
Way up inside their lighted tree?
Suns and moons and shooting stars
Comets with tails and men from Mars
Scent of pine needles, Rudolph near
“Jingle Bells” carols ringing clear
Cookies and candy cane wrapping litter
Miracles hidden by tinsel glitter
Christmas magic thrills yet another
The next year I’m joined by little brother
His arms stretched high to fi
