Summerfest Dubuque

What is the connection between a local
festival and workforce development?
Summerfest Dubuque is a fundraiser for
students going into a skilled occupation
and are committed to staying in the TriState area after graduation. Proceeds from
this event, organized by the Dubuque Area
Labor-Management Council (DALMC) with
the help of many employers and unions, will
fund the Council’s Education and Skilled
Trade grant programs.
Join DALMC at the Town Clock on Friday,
August 12, from 5:00-10:00 p.m. to enjoy
the outdoor festival with fantastic music,
fresh food, and ice cold beverages. Big
Time Grain Company will be the headline
attraction. The evening will begin at 5:00
p.m. with 50 Pound Rooster. At 7:00 p.m.,
Big Time Grain Company will astound you
with a high energy country rock!
Admission to Summerfest Dubuque is free.
Volunteers from the Veterans Freedom
Big Time Grain Company Band\
Center will accept free-will donations for
the Education and Skilled Trade grant programs and the Veterans Freedom Center at
the entrances.
50 Pound Rooster is a four-piece country/
southern rock band from Bellevue, IA. They
are noted for their driving rhythms, scorching hot guitar licks, great lyrics, and vocal
harmonies. 50 Pound Rooster has opened
for Kenny Chesney and Leann Rhimes.

Big Time Grain Company Band from Kansas
City, KS, a four-piece country rock band will
be on fire with high energy and captivating
songs you will know. The original members
of the band are from farms in Kansas City.
Get your dancing shoes and country songs
from Alabama, Jason Aldean, Eric Church,
Brad Paisley, and more.
DALMC is pleased to have a variety of food
vendors such as Carlos O’Kelly’s Mexican
Restaurant, Cold Stone Creamery and
Freddie’s Popcorn. New this year, Catfish
Charlie serves hog roast sandwiches, pork
tenderloins, Charlie’s famous catfish fingers, and homemade chips; East Mill Bakeshop will be serving breakfast sandwiches
and The Corner Grill will be cooking up
gyros and baklavas.
“At Summerfest, we want to raise awareness that skilled, good-paying career opportunities are available in the Dubuque
area for people who are willing to seek the
education needed for the career,” according
to Kelly Cooper, Executive Director of the
DALMC.
More than 35 organizations have signed on
as sponsors for the event. “These organizations are fully on board with the principle
that a skilled, educated, and involved workforce is the key to successful corporate
enterprise and a thriving local economy,”
Cooper said. “These are people we already
have in Dubuque. These are people we
want to stay here.”
Applications for grants can be picked up
from member organizations of the Council,
sponsors of Summerfest and area schools
beginning January 1. Information can also
be downloaded at DALMC.com.
