Make it enjoyable
If something feels like a chore, you’ ll resist it. But if it’ s enjoyable, it becomes effortless. Hate running? Try dance workouts. Struggle with reading? Listen to audiobooks. The more fun it is, the less willpower you need.

Focus on identity, not just goals
Instead of simply setting goals, shift your mindset to align with your identity. Instead of“ I want to quit smoking,” think,“ I am a non-smoker”. Instead of“ I should eat healthier,” say,“ I am someone who nourishes my body”. When your habits align with your identity, they become part of who you are.
The bottom line
Willpower isn’ t a long-term strategy – it’ s a shortterm fix. To create real, lasting change, you need to set up your life in a way that supports your goals. By changing your environment, building small habits and making good choices easier, you eliminate the need for constant self-control.
