So why is ethnic diversity so noticeably lacking among models ? Numerous models have voiced their concerns about the lack of diversity within the fashion industry . Jourdan Dunn , 22 year old British model spoke to net-a- porter and claims that racism in the fashion industry is still very alive . She expressed issues that she has faced as a young black model like when she was turned back from a casting before because the client ‘ didn ’ t want any more black girls ’. Dunn isn ’ t the only model of colour to speak out , Naomi Campbell and Iman Abdulmajid launched a campaign to raise racial awareness , Naomi says “ It ’ s heart-breaking to me that we ’ re still sitting here talking about this . But it has to be done and people need to know .”
