Krpalek went into the gold medal match with the same kind of fiery determination he displayed in the semi-final, going after Gasimov with real attempts to throw. When Krpalek managed to hook Gasimov's leg in an ouchi-gari attempt, Gasimov tried to counter the technique but instead ended up flat on his back with Krpalek on top.
