In the evidence I Just presented, Mr. Kinbote seems to be fully aware of
the great battles of the land, not to mention the design of the windows and
the boys who worked on castle grounds (refer to footnote 1). I’m not sure
about everyone else, but to me it appears only someone with close ties,
maybe even a King, has access to and knowledge of this kind of infor-
mation. There are other instances to when the accused has mentioned
vivid memories of his life in Zembla, one being of the King’s uncle and his
uncle’s castle he once visited.[3] Furthermore, Mr. Kinbote often recalls
the months of Zembla and what the weather was like.[4] This extensive
knowledge of the state of Zembla and its history and characteristics
proves that Mr. Kinbote is in fact the exiled king of Zembla, The beloved
King Xavier.
My last piece of evidence shows that other people are well aware that Mr.
Kinbote is in fact the king of Zembla. John Shade has proven to be a re-
spectable person among his peers and strangers. He is an acclaimed writ-
er and professor and his word is sound. The fact that even John Shade
acknowledges Charles Kinbote as king aides in this prosecution. One
time, Mr. Shade even acknowledged knowing that Kinbote had fled.
[5] During the same conversation, Mr. Kinbote also confirms to John
Shade the translation of the Zemblan language t o English.[6]
Ladies and Gentlemen I have presented my evidence which clearly points
to Charles Kinbote as being the exiled king of Zembla.

Judge: Thank you attorney Selim.
Swivels his chair and turns to Attorney Miles.
Attorney Miles, you may have the floor.
Miles: Thank you, your honor.
Miles stands up a bit too quick and clashes the chair on accident to
